I made a comment about how when your nervousness turns into excitement you know you’re on the right path. That was how I felt about this shoot. Even though we had limited time to actually capture, edit and send the photos in to meet the deadline the following day for the @inkedmag 2020 contest, I was excited. For once I was excited, not nervous.
I’ve been working really hard at leveling up my photography game within the last 2 months, constantly practicing and perfecting my craft, especially when it comes to professional level portraits & other commercial photography.
Let’s get into the juicy details.
Equipment used for this shoot:
Canon 5D Mark IV
50mm 1.8 ($150 lens that has never failed me)
Godox Ad400 Pro paired with a 48 inch 120cm deep softbox
Locations:
My little studio setup - located in Certified Training Group Building
Aurora Ink Shop
Bailey Theater
The whole point of this shoot was to enter Aurora into a contest for a tattoo oriented magazine cover contest. My goal was to take photos that look like something you would already see on a magazine or in a magazine while highlighting the fact she has tattoos.
The first location we used my studio setup and photographed on a seamless grey background to capture the cliche magazine cover photos. I wanted to reinforce the “hey she would look good on a cover” type thought with the basic studio shots. One of the photos taken at the first location happens to be my favorite from the whole shoot.
Moving on to the second location, her very own tattoo shop. Recently renovated and moved in, this was actually the most perfect boudoir styled shots i could have got. I messed around with my off camera flash as well as natural lighting and got a few great snaps!
The 3rd and final location was a local live theater that’s been around since 1910 and it made for some pretty awesome shots as well. I never would have thought to shoot here, it kinda just happened & some of the shots we got were unique!
All photographs were edited and submitted by the end of the night. We did work and it turned out amazing. You can view the whole photo gallery here
